Arabella Steinbacher

"...triumphant account": Arabella Steinbacher debütierte beim Chicago Symphony Orchestra

November 2007 im „Chicago Tribune“: „Dohnanyi reverted to Barenboim's seating plan, which divided the violins across the podium, moved the cellos front and center and arranged the double basses behind the first fiddles. This configuration helped him bring out the dark colorings and misty textures that framed Arabella Steinbacher's triumphant account of the treacherous solo part in the Sibelius concerto. The German violinist, in her mid-20s, was making her American orchestral debut. From her magical entry over hushed orchestral strings to the biting swagger she brought to the dancing finale, it was evident that her feeling for this music runs as deep as her technical command. The central Adagio came off especially beautifully, Steinbacher conveying its brooding melancholy with a rich vibrato, impeccable intonation and a remarkable breadth of phrasing. The sound she drew from her 1716 "Booth" Stradivari stood out from the orchestra: limitless tonal depth swaddled in velvet. Let's have her back, and soon.”
