Am 24. und 25. Februar 2009 gastierte Alban Gerhardt in Birmingham: Mit dem City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra unter Andris Nelsons musizierte er in der "Symphony Hall". Auf dem Programm: Dvoráks Cellokonzert.

Christopher Morley schrieb dazu am 26. Februar 2009 in der “Birmingham Post”: “Between these two came Dvorak’s Cello Concerto, undoubtedly the greatest in the repertoire. Alban Gerhardt’s reading was one of passionate spontaneity, impulsive and generously-toned, and Nelsons, an experienced conductor of opera singers, breathed and felt with his soloist at every moment.”
